Frequently Asked Questions

🔻General Info
🔹 Why can't you use a PO Box address for shipping?

• Our kits fit hardtail mountain bikes, hybrid bikes, and city or road bikes
• Your frame must have 135mm rear open-slotted dropouts (new models such as Trek Marlin 7 Gen 3 have closed dropouts as opposed to Trek Marlin 7 Gen 2 having open dropouts)
• Alloy or steel frames are recommended

🔹 What does the MTX motor hub require?

🔻 Installation
🔹 Can you build your set up without chains or gears?

Yes, you may choose to build any of the options depends on your preference.

1. Build with no gears or chains (purely throttle power)
2. Build with gears + chains (pedal + throttle)
3. Build with single speed chain (pedal + throttle
4. Build with no throttle either pedal assist system only (PAS)

For 3000w & 5000w builds most clientele remove chains and gears set up with only throttle.

🔹 Can you install it yourself?

• Yes, the kit is plug and play with basic tools
• Having a second person to help makes the process much easier
• If unsure, we recommend getting help from a local bike technician

🔹 What tools are required for the full setup?

• Allen key set
• Adjustable wrench or spanner
• Phillips head screwdriver
• Cable ties (provided)
• Torque arm wrench or socket
• Chain whip & cassette tool (if reusing your old cassette)
• Electrical tape or heat shrink (optional)
• Tire levers & floor pump

🔹 How long does install take?

• Beginner: 1 to 3 hours — you may need to follow video guides
• Experienced: Around 30 minutes with basic bike tool knowledge
We provide full instructions and after-purchase support until build is complete A to Z

🔹 What throttle is included?

• Full twist throttle is included by default
Email us after purchase if you prefer half twist or thumb throttle instead

🔹 How to fix brake disc rubbing/misalignment?

Purchase brake disc spacers, generally 3mm is best for 3000w.

🔹 What is a freewheel vs cassette?

Cassette vs. Freewheel (Flywheel)
• There are two common rear gear types: cassettes and freewheels (flywheels).
Our MTX motor only supports threaded freewheels, not cassettes.

🔧 The Difference:
• Freewheel (threaded): Screws onto the motor hub
• Cassette (splined): Slides onto a freehub (Not supported)

If your bike has 8-speed cassette, buy an 8-speed threaded freewheel and change to 8-speed derailleur accordingly.
